Have you ever wondered why some people generally seem to be up-beat and positive most of the time, while others are negative and constantly complaining? Why do some people find it easy to stay in shape and exercise and some people don’t, even though they both have the same 24-hours and the same busy lives? And why do some people effortlessly make their dreams come true, while others struggle and end up helping someone else build THEIR dreams? Simply put, why are some people successful and some people are not?
The Difference Between Successful & Unsuccessful People
You can do research and measure just about anything in life and narrow it to a simple number or ratio:
- The # of marriages vs. divorces
- The average life span in the U.S. vs. the life span in the far East
- The employed vs. unemployed
- The # of people with heart disease vs. good health
You can measure anything anyway you want to, but the cold hard fact is the majority of people are just not making it!
In my life experience, what I see is about 1 out of 20 are accomplishing their goals and living their dreams, whether it’s financial, marital, personal, health-wise or whatever. In other words, only 5% are making things happen which means 95% are either failing or coming up short.
So, what are the 5% doing that the 95% are not?!?
If you recall from my article The Laser Sharp Competitive Edge: Part I, you saw that it’s not education, birthright, inheritance, “mad” skills, being at the right place at the right time or even “blind” luck. Rather, what all successful people understand is the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge philosophy and the fact that it’s either working for them or working against them.
If you come to understand and apply the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge philosophy you will begin to fill each one of your days with dozens of small, seemingly insignificant actions and all of them very easy to perform. Sure, these actions will test your level of courage, patience, integrity and determination, but each and every task will not make you physically collapse from exhaustion or even perspire (you’re not climbing Mount Everest here or fighting a UFC match!); and those actions over-time WILL create success in your life because…
That’s What Successful People Do – Multiple Small Daily Tasks That Are Very Easy To Perform
It’s The Simple Things in Life That Matter
I can hear your rebuttal from here, “Hold on a second, Mr. Achieve it, or whatever your name is! How are simple, daily tasks going to create happiness, health and HUGE success in my life? If these little tasks are so easy to do, why aren’t more people doing them?!?” Great question! And I’ll tell you:
Because Simple, Easy To Do Daily Actions Are Also Just As Easy Not To Do! And while anyone can easily do them, most people choose not to!
In general, everyone engages in the same sort of behaviors every day – we eat, sleep, walk, talk, listen, work and do hobbies, etc. Each one of us has the same 24-hours a day, 8,760-hours a year, and we all make decisions every day to fill this time-frame with a sequence of little actions; and any one of them, individually, are seemingly quite insignificant. Let’s be honest here. Gold Medal Olympians eat, sleep, shower and watch movies the same as people who are 100 lbs. overweight. The Über-wealthy have family, friends and relationships as do the people who are unemployed. And successful entrepreneurs read books, as well as homeless people living on the streets or in shelters.
Successful and unsuccessful people both do the same basic activities of daily living, but the things successful people do take them to the top and the things unsuccessful people do take them to the bottom or just half-way (middle-class). So, what the heck’s the difference?!?
The Difference Is Their Awareness, Understanding And Execution Of The Laser Sharp Competitive Edge Philosophy
The difference that will make ALL the difference between obtaining the quality of life you dream of and settling for less than you want and deserve lies 110% in which of those small, seemingly insignificant actions you choose to undertake each day. That’s why each and every one of us is capable of doing what it takes to be ultra-successful. It’s a choice you make every single day. Even when you hit road-blocks, obstacles or negative people, or you’re just fed-up of doing all those little daily tasks, it’s still YOUR choice whether you stop or continue. Your success is ultimately in your hands and nobody else’s. You, and ONLY you, control your destiny, not any other person, place, thing or difficulties you encounter.
The Laser Sharp Competitive Edge is there every day, always working for you… or working against you! The purpose of this Part II article is to help you to continue to become aware of it and to show you how it’s always working in your life, every day, every hour, every second, in every action you undertake and in every daily choice you make at any given time during each 24-hour period you spend on this planet.
Simple, Daily Tasks are Very Easy To Do… & Equally Easy NOT To Do!
Again, everything you need to do to increase your quality of life, whether it’s weight loss, financial, personal, anxiety, health, relationship improvement or whatever, is extremely easy to do! I’m telling you, it’s easy to stop smoking, become healthy, skinny, financially independent and to be happy in your marriage or relationship. Just follow the easy formula below:
Perform simple, little disciplines (tasks) consistently over an extended period of time and these small tasks will add up to colossal achievement. I don’t care what your head tells you or even if you have the whole world against you… Don’t Stop Moving Forward!
That’s why it’s so easy to have anything and everything you ever wanted in life, because every action that you need to do to make your dreams come true is EASY! So, why are most people unhappy, unhealthy and broke if every action necessary to be successful is so easy to do?
Remember? Every Action That Is easy To Do, Is Also Easy NOT To Do!
So, why’s that? Why are actions easy not to do? Because on any given day if you choose not to do one of your small tasks… it won’t hurt you! There’s ZERO impact on your life, that is, that day! Something is easy not to do when it won’t have a catastrophic financial effect, or an imminent life-threat, or put your relationship in immediate ruin… today! And the most dangerous thing is NOT doing simple, positive, daily tasks is generally MORE comfortable than doing them. But the compound effect of not doing simple daily tasks over-time will absolutely sabotage and ruin your chances for success. And you can believe me on this one because… that’s the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge!
These are the choices you face every day, every hour and every second:
- A simple, positive action, repeated over-time, or
- A simple error in judgment and/or inaction, repeated over-time
Unless you make the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge work for you… it will work against you!
Personal Achievement Occurs By Invisible Results
How you feed your mind is every bit as important to your happiness and personal achievement as how you feed your body. And almost everything you need to know to be successful at anything has already been written in books, or in self-help articles like this one.
Here’s a Laser Sharp Competitive Edge guarantee to change your life:
Get a “How-to” or self-improvement book in your subject of choice, aimed at improving your life every day,
- Read just 10- pages a day… that’s all!
So, if you do this will your life change right away? Of course not. If you don’t take my challenge will your life be in ruins? I really don’t think so. However, if you do read 10-pages a day you will experience some sort of personal growth and possess the knowledge that you need to be successful in your field of choice; and if you don’t, you’ll stay where you are… stagnant! Like saving a penny over-time with daily compound interest, reading 10-pages a day will compound as well and create a million dollar bank of knowledge inside you.
But the question really is will you do it?!? Well, for 1-day, for sure. For 2-days, yeah, and perhaps even for a week. But will you still be reading 10-pages a day by the end of the month? If you do, by the end of the year, you’ll have read 3,650 pages, which is equal to approximately 2-dozen books of life-changing material! Will your life change then? Absolutely. There’s no question in my mind. The problem is at the end of week 1, all you have are Invisible Results, and that’s why most people don’t recognize or understand the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge and thus, why they never learn how to make it work for them, and why the Competitive Edge ends up working against them.
When you make the right choices today, you won’t see the results today… or even tomorrow!
We live in a result-oriented world in which we expect to see the results of our actions NOW! You don’t even have to program a microwave anymore (remember when you had to first program the Power, then the Time?). Today, all you have to do is hit the 1-button and it immediately runs for 1-minute, or hit the Popcorn-button and away it goes. I’m afraid we live in a world of instant gratification … “I want it and I want it NOW!” But that’s not how you build personal achievement!
“Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” ~ Jeff Olson, Nerium International CEO
In other words, success is a journey, a process, not a destination; it’s something you experience gradually over-time; and failure is also just as gradual. In fact, the difference between success and failure is so subtle that you can’t even recognize it during the process.
So, here’s how you build real personal success: By the time you receive feedback, the real work is already done!
In other words, when you get to the point where you and everyone else can see your success, congratulate you, shake your hand and tell you how “lucky” you are, the necessary Competitive Edge choices you made are prehistoric. And the funny thing is when you made the positive choices and carried them out, nobody even noticed you, and if they did, they were probably only naysayers (“You’re wasting your time! That’ll never work! You’re being scammed!”). In fact, even YOU wouldn’t have noticed, that is, unless you understood the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge. That’s why they’re called, Invisible Results!
The Steep Price of Procrastination
For example, let’s say that at age 24 you and a friend both decide to invest $2,000 a year in an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) with the goal of having $1 million by age 65. Your friend begins immediately and you decide to wait until after the 6th year. How long do you think it would take for you to catch up to your friend and arrive at the same total by age 65. It would take you 33-years and $54k more for you to catch up to your friend and have $1 million by age 65, because you lost 6-years of compound interest (click on infographic => Cost of Waiting, then in next window click Cost_Wait_NEW).
So, if you’re lagging behind right now, am I saying it’s too late for you to get started on the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge? Not at all. It’s never too late and you’re never too old to apply the Competitive Edge philosophy. I’m just saying there is a price to pay for waiting. So let’s just say…
It’s NEVER too late to get started & it’s ALWAYS too late to wait!
Every Little Thing You Do Does Matter
We all know what we need to do to sustain our health and live a long life, right? Basically, a balanced diet of fruit, veggies, lean protein and complex carbs with a little exercise. This info has been around for decades and decades. So, how come most people in North America are not following this regimen and consuming mass quantities of fat-laden processed foods, like cheeseburgers and fries, on a daily basis, and dying at age 78 or before (the average life expectancy in the U.S.)? Well, I’ll tell you why. Because it won’t kill you TODAY!
If you ate at a fast-food restaurant and right afterwards you suffered a major heart attack, would you eat that kind of food again? Probably not, but that outcome is extremely unlikely. However, when you add up the compound effect of 20-30 years of high-fat and high-sugar content food, eventually you become obese and the coronary arteries of your heart get clogged by plaque build-up (heart disease – the #1 killer in the U.S.) and you can suffer a fatal heart attack or suffer a stroke (a piece of plaque breaks off, then lodges in your brain, creating partial paralysis of your right or left side). In many ways, we dig our own graves with our teeth!
So, it’s easy to eat well and just as easy not to eat well. It’s not the one pepperoni pizza with a large soda that will kill you, but the 100’s and 100’s of junk-food meals in the long-run that will. Not eating processed food today will NOT save your life, but abstaining over-time WILL save your life. It’s up to you. You can decide on a single positive action today or a single error in judgment. Either way…
It’s the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge working for you or against you!
In other words, you can pass up the elliptical machine or treadmill today because it’s easy to do and it won’t kill you today, tomorrow or even next year, or even cause you to gain 10 or 20-lbs. But the compound effect of not exercising over-time, that little error in judgment, will have catastrophic effects to your health. And this is the same for your finances, education, knowledge base, relationships or marriage and anything and everything else in your life!
One person is eating fast-food, another a healthy meal; one is jogging, another is watching T.V.; one person saves a $1 a day, another person doesn’t. Is there any difference between the two? Not at first appearance and certainly NOT today, and probably not next week either. Therefore, for 95% of people it’s easy to conclude that the little things they do in life every day are really not that important.
In fact, the difference between success and failure isn’t sensational or accompanied by fire-works, but subtle and most people miss it. That’s why the majority hold the philosophy that the little things they do every day don’t really matter. And I don’t blame them at all. It’s nearly impossible to take action against something you can’t see. It’s just simply isn’t true though.
Your daily actions do matter and matter a lot… especially down the road!
Successful people just do the little things that seem to make no difference while doing them, and they do them over a sustained period-of-time until the compound effect of these small, simple steps add up to HUGE success.
Those little tasks every day that will bring you success in regards to your finances, business, health, relationships, education, or whatever you set out to achieve, are simple, subtle, small actions that nobody will notice, nobody will pat you on the back for and nobody will appreciate. They are those little tasks that, at the time of execution, generally seem like they make no difference in your life at all … but they do!
The most important thing I can tell you about the Laser Sharp Competitive Edge is that it’s already working for you right now, that is, either for you or against you. So Don’t Wait!
Although you can apply this philosophy to any endeavor in your life, my hope for you after reading this article is that you put into place a Competitive Edge financial plan, so that you are consistently building equity or passive residual income toward your retirement, in order to insure against being destitute and coming up short like so many are at that time in their lives when they should be enjoying life the most.
All I’m asking is that you merely put into place some simple daily disciplines that over-time, the compound effect of which will add up to your personal and financial freedom. Easy to do? Surprisingly so. Easy not to do. Tragically so! The choice is entirely up to you every single day of your life. So, for yourself, your family and your future, take your first step today and don’t stop stepping!
